Childhood
Eugene Allen Hackman was born on January 30, 1930, to Lydda Elizabeth and Eugene Ezra Hackman, in San Bernardino, California, USA. He has a younger brother named Richard.
Later his family settled in Danville, Illinois, where they resided at his maternal grandmother’s house. Hackman’s father started working at the printing press for a local newspaper, ‘TheCommercial News’. However, his father left the family as the couple consequently divorced in 1943.
Education
- Gene briefly started living in storm lake, Lowa and further studied at storm lake high school.
- Later, at the age of 16, he applied to the United States Marine Corps, where he worked as a field radio operator for about 4 to 5 years. However, in an interview, he had stated he had to lie about his age to get enlisted.

- Hackman decided his career at acting and started pursuing it as he studied at Pasadena Playhouse Theatre, California.
- There he met Dustin Hoffman, who was one of his fellow students. The two eventually became close and were voted the “most likely to succeed’’ by other classmates who considered them outsiders. He was given the lowest score there.
- Eventually, Hackman was motivated by the strong criticism and moved to New York. There he started working in various off-broadways plays.
- Moreover, he got minor roles at television and movies and came across to co-star against sandy Dennis in the play Wednesday. Hence his theatre journey blossomed to getting him roles in films.

- In 1961, Hackman got his first break from playing a cop in mad dog coll. Later he made his highest debut with the movie ‘Lilith’ with Warren Beatty.
