Who was Anthony Hopkins ?
Sir Philip Anthony Hopkins, CBE (born 31 December 1937) is a Welsh actor in cinema, theater and television. He is widely regarded as one of the best actors in the film world, perhaps best known for his portrayal of the cannibalistic serial killer Hannibull Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs, Hannibull in the sequel, and Red Dragon in the sequel. Hopkins was born and lived in Wales. He received US citizenship on 12 April 2000, along with British citizenship.
Early Life
Anthony Hopkins was born in Margam, Port Talbot, Wales, he is the son of Muriel Annie (ney Eytes) and baker Richard Earther Hopkins. In 1949, to teach discipline, his parents insisted on getting him admitted to the [West Monmouth Boys of Pontypul | West Monmouth Boys of Pontypul] school. He then entered the Royal Wales College of Music and Drama in Cardiff from where he graduated in 1957.
Career

He made his debut on the small screen in the 1967 BBC broadcast A Flea in Every Year. In 1968, he got a chance to play Richard I in The Lion in Winter, with Peter O Tully, Catherine Hepburn and future James Bond star Timothy Dalton starring Philip II of France.

Acting style

Hannibal Lecter
Hopkins played the most famous role as cannibal sequential killer Hannibal Lector in The Silence of the Lamb, for which he won the Academy Award for Best Actor in 1992 and was joined by Jodie Foster in the role of Clarice, for whom She won the Best Actress Award. The film won Best Film, Best Director and Best Transformed Screenplay. Hopkins had the chance to reprise the role as Lecter twice (Hannibal in 2001, Red Dragon in 2002).

Private Life
Until 2007, Hopkins lived in the United States. He once visited his home country before making his film career during the 1970s, but returned to the UK in the 1980s. However, after the success of his 1990s he decided to return to the US. Here on 12 April 2000, he became a naturalized citizen and celebrated it with a road trip of 3000 miles across the country.
Hopkins has married three times. His first two wives were Petronella Barker (1967–1972) and Jennifer Linton (1973–2002). Hopkins attended a 12-step meeting for alcohol addiction, and suddenly stopped drinking in 1975. He is a fan of comedian Tommy Cooper.
Other Tasks
Hopkins is a talented pianist. In 1986 he released a single called “Distant Star”. It reached # 75 in the UK charts. In 2007 he announced that he was temporarily taking a break from the screen to tour the world. Hopkins has also written music in concert hall, in collaboration with orchestrator Stephen Barton. These compositions include The Mask of Time, which premiered in October 2008 with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and Shizoed Salsa.
In 1996 Hopkins directed his first film August, an adaptation of the Chekov Uncle Vanya set in Wales. His first screenplay, Slippestream, an experimental drama that he directed and scored, premiered at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival. Writer John Sullivan had witnessed the interview and created a local villainous character, Danny Driscoll, in his mind for Hopkins.
Award
In 1973, Anthony Hopkins won the BAFTA Award for Best Actor for his performance as Pierre Bezukhov in the BBC production War and Peace, and was also rewarded for The Silence of the Lambs and Shadowlands. He won the award for both directing and acting for Slipstream at the Switzerland Locarno International Film Festival. In 1979, Anthony Hopkins became an honorary member of the Royal Academy of Music, London.
