Rajendra Kumar was an Indian film actor. He had his film ‘Jogan’ in 1950 as an actor. The buzzing Shehnai was his first super hit film. Rajendra`s Birth

Rajendra Kumar was born on 20 July 1929 in Sialkot, Punjab. His wife’s name was Shukla. He has a son and two daughters as follows – His son Kumar Gaurav was married to Raj Kapoor’s daughter Reema but the relationship broke up due to some reason. He was then married to Sunil Dutt and Nargis’s daughter Namrata – who is the sister of Sanjay Dutt.

Career

He had his film ‘Jogan’ in 1950 as an actor. In which he got an opportunity to act alongside Dilip Kumar and Nargis. He gained fame with Mother India in 1957, in which he played the son of Nargis. He earned a name as a lead actor after the success of the 1959 film Gunj Uti Shehnai.

In the 60s, he earned a lot of name and many times it happened that his 6-7 films were together in the Silver Jubilee week. For this reason, he got the name ‘Jubilee Kumar’.

In his film life, Rajendra Kumar gave many successful films such as Dhool Phool, Dil Ek Mandir, Mere Mehboob, Sangam, Arzu, Sagar of Pyaar, Deep Daag, Suraj and Talaash.

He was nominated for the Filmfare Award in the Best Actor category for the films Dil Ek Mandir, I Milan Ki Bella and Arzu, and Sangam in the Best Supporting Actor category.

Since 1972, he faced the competition from Rajesh Khanna. During this time he worked with Nutan in the 1978 film Saajan Bina Suhagan. From the late ’70s to the’ 80s, he switched to character roles. He also acted in many Punjabi films such as Teri Meri Ek Zindari.

In 1981, he got his son Kumar Gaurav into films with a film called Love Story. Along with being the producer-director of this film, he also played the role of Kumar Gaurav’s father in this film. The film proved to be very successful at the box office. He also produced many more films with his son. In 1986, he made a film with his son and Sanjay Dutt, which again managed to break into the box office. His last acting meaning was in the film.

Award

Rajendra Kumar gave many successful films in the 1950s and 1960s. Among them, ‘Dust ka phool’, ‘Mere Mehboob’, ‘Sangam’ and ‘Arju’ were prominent. Rajendra Kumar was nominated thrice in the Filmfare Award for Best Actor category, though he never received the award, as the period was of many great actors who in some cases looked twenty. In 1969, he was honored with ‘Padma Shri’. He was awarded the National Award for Hindi film ‘Kaanoon’ and Gujarati film ‘Henna Rang Lagyo’ by the lotus of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.
