Life of Prem Chopra

Prem Chopra was born on 23 September 1935 in Lahore. His father’s name was Ranbir Lal and his mother was Rooprani. After the partition of India, his family moved to Shimla and he completed his primary education from there. After this, he completed his undergraduate education from Punjab University. His attachment to acting started right from his college days.

Prem Chopra’s career

After completing college, he started working at the Times of India in Mumbai. At the same time, he continued to put his own strength to enter films. After this, in the year 1962, he got a chance to work in a Punjabi film. The film “Chaudhary Karnail Singh” became a super duper hit at the box office. Prem Chopra’s career also shone with this film.

In his initial phase, he played the role of Sukhdev in the film “Shaheed”, which was highly appreciated by the people. “Woh Kaun Thi”, made in 1964, gave Prem an important place in Hindi cinema and after this, Manoj Kumar’s “Upkar” became the leading villain of Hindi cinema. During this period, Prem Chopra`s did films like “Jhuk Gaya Akash”, “Doli”, “Do Rasta”, “Purab Aur Paschim”, “Prem Pujari”, “Kati Kite”, “Hare Rama Hare Krishna” etc.

Then came the 1973 film “Bobby”. Doylag, spoken by him in the film “Bobby” directed by producer director Raj Kapoor, is popular among people even today, in which he said “Prem Naam Hai Mera, Prem Chopra”. In 1976, he played the role of Amitabh Bachchan’s friend in the film “Do Anjaane”.
