Om Puri was a noted actor of Indian films. Om Puri started his film career with the Marathi drama film Ghasiram Kotwal. Apart from Hindi, he also worked in English, Marathi, Kannada and Punjabi films. He was awarded the Padma Shri award, India’s fourth civilian award. Birth
Om Puri was born on 18 October 1950 in Ambala, Haryana. His full name was Om Rajesh Puri. His father’s name was Rajesh Puri and his mother’s name was Tara Devi. Om Puri married actor Annu Kapoor’s sister Seema Kapoor in 1991, but their marriage ended after eight months.
In 1993, he married journalist Nandita Puri, with whom he had a son named Ishaan Puri. In 2009, Nandita wrote a biography of her husband, entitled Unlily Hero: The Story of Om Puri. Upon publication of the book, Puri spoke of his anger over the inclusion of a clear description of their past relationships. In 2013, Nandita filed domestic violence charges against him, and the two opted for judicial separation shortly afterwards.

Puri came from a disadvantaged background. When he was six years old, his father, who was a railway employee, was put on hold on charges of theft of cement. This resulted in their families becoming homeless. To finish meeting Puri’s brother, Puri worked as a cool (railway porter) and Puri worked at the local tea shop. After that, to assist his family, he had to start working at the age of seven. He worked oddly, worked in a neighborhood dhaba (street side food stall), supported his family by bringing coal from near a tea shop and railway. Later a maid servant brought her and her brother’s children.
Education
Om Puri completed his early education from his maternal grandfather in Patiala in Punjab. After receiving training from the Pune Film Institute in 1976, Ompuri taught acting in a studio for about one and a half years. Later Ompuri set up his own private theater group “Majma”.
Career
Om Puri started his film journey with the Marathi drama film Ghasiram Kotwal. The film “Aakrosh” released in 1980 proved to be the first hit of Om Puri’s cinematic career. Om Prakash has showcased his best acting in many successful films in his Hindi cinema career. Being from a non-film family, he had to struggle hard to make his place in Hindi cinema. He has also been awarded several awards due to his outstanding performance in Hindi cinema.

Om Puri died of a heart attack on 6 January 2017 at the age of 66.
