Ballmer was born in Detroit, Michigan, to a family of Swiss American fathers and Jewish-American mothers whose family came from a city in Eastern Europe in Pinsk (now in Belarus). He grew up in Farmington Hills, Michigan. In 1973, he graduated from Detroit Country Day School, a private college preparatory school in Beverly Hills, Michigan, and now sits on the same board of director’s chair.
